Unless you’re dealing with thinning hair (I’m sorry, girl! Hope that’s not you…) or dandruff (haven’t we all at one point?), most likely you don’t think about your scalp that often. Reverie wants to change all that with their Cake Anti-Aging Growth Serum.
Garrett Markenson, lauded hairstylist, owner of Coiffure (premier salon in the Santa Clarita Valley) and founder of Reverie, brings forth this revolutionary and expensive hair care product touting benefits that would make any girl swoon – supports natural hair growth, calms frizz and fly-aways, hydrates the scalp, controls oil production for those with oily hair, and makes hair thicker (Um, yes and yes). What are the ingredients responsible for these amazing benefits you ask – Swiss apple stem cells and a blend of eight essential oils, including sandalwood and frankincense.
The hair follicles on our heads follow a 2-7 year cycle (cycle length depends on age, diet, etc), during which, each strand moves through three phases: “growth,” “resting,” and “release.” The growth phase for a healthy adult lasts roughly 4 years. (Strands grow on average 1cm per month.) At the end of this cycle, the hair strand stops growing, the root of the follicle moves towards the surface where it waits for roughly 3 weeks. Once the hair follicle moves into the final release phase, they can linger here for around 3 months before finally falling out during washing or brushing. On average, we lose 50-80 strands of hair per day (La Roche Posay).
Swiss apple stem cells, the main active ingredient in the Cake Anti-Aging Growth Serum, play a role in disrupting this hair follicle cycle. In a study published in the International Journal for Applied Science in 2008, they reported that Swiss apple stem cells increased the duration of the growth cycle of hair follicles. Thus, resulting in longer and thicker hair.
While stem cells are boosting your hair’s ability to grow, the frankincense oil in Cake also promotes cellular hair health and conditioning. And sandalwood oil acts as an excellent anti-viral agent reducing inflammation, soothing and cleansing skin.
The scalp oil can be applied to wet or dry hair, but I like it best used on damp, towel dried hair right out of the shower. After a month of use, my hair feels thicker and I’ve found it really helps control scalp oil. I can go two days without washing my hair and not need to use dry shampoo. Hair roots remain silky and smooth between washes. Increased hair length is debatable, but overall, I love this product! It’s worth the splurge in my book.
