[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]About the brand
Honest Beauty launched online, September 9th, and in a temporary pop-up shop at the Los Angeles shopping center, The Grove, on September 25th. The beauty brand founded by Honest Company founder, Jessica Alba, boasts a healthy 83 piece collection – 17 skincare items and 66 pieces of makeup. The actress has been direct in stating that the line is not organic, but rather made from natural non-toxic ingredients in both the products and packaging.
Ingredients and price point
The products are made from naturally derived botanicals such as chamomile, calendula, aloe vera, rosehip and green tea. From first touch, I was surprised and dare I say impressed by the products feel and look. Priced from $8 to $40 for skin care and $15 to $30 for cosmetics, the line sits in a very accessible range.
The brand also offers the option to “Bundle” any 3 items for $50, no matter their price point, and receive 25% off additional items purchased at the same time. The Bundle does come with a caveat; requiring customers to sign up for automatic replenishment of 3 products of their choosing every 4, 6, or 8 weeks. While this package deal can be cancelled at any time, Honest Beauty doesn’t make it easy. Cancellation requests must be made by phone between 5am – 5pm PST M-F.
Products we love
Luminizing Powder – This product is my favorite. The Dawn Reflection powder gives the perfect coral, bronze, glow perfect for olive or tan skin tones. I have yet to find a color that matches my skin this perfectly.
Brow Filler – Good value for a great product. Color matches beautifully and blends well. No complaints.
Sheer Lip Crayons – Lightweight, subtle. It looked like I didn’t have anything on my lips just a natural youthful flush. But the wearability of these crayons is short. Within the hour the color wipes off on glass rims or from talking.
Lip Gloss – Just a hint of color. Subtle, lightweight, and beautiful. We love the sheer nude, Dreamy Kiss. Irresistible. But be forewarned – these glosses are not long lasting. We found ourselves reapplying frequently.
Products we feel “meh” about
Everything Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free – The finish is anything, but “lightweight.” Product felt sticky and shiny. Pass.
Beyond Protected Daily Beauty Fluid SPF 30 – The lightweight feel is great. We almost put this product in the “Love” section, if it weren’t for the packaging. The small opening makes it very difficult to get sunscreen out. We found ourselves frustrated and thinking it wasn’t worth the effort.
