Ecco Bella is the nice guy at the party. He’s wearing wide leg, boot cut jeans that definitely went out of style a decade ago, and Teva sandals with socks. His hair is a little shaggy, but less Kit Harrington, and more, say, Michael Cera. Though he lacks sexiness and overt confidence, there’s an innocence, substance and genuineness to his makeup. The same is true for Ecco Bella’s line of cosmetics. While their packaging leaves something aesthetically to be desired, the high quality, cruelty-free, eco-concious line of natural products presented in recycled packaging make them the “marrying” type.
The green makeup line launched in 1992, before brands like Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop made non-toxic makeup a trend, bring forth a line of products true to their ethos that has now grown to include: liquid and powder foundation; bronzer, highlighter, and a range of blushes; lipsticks, lip glosses, and lip liners; and a variety of eye shadow colors, eye liners and mascaras. All items are made with the brand’s signature makeup ingredient – flower wax.
Ever seen morning dew droplets resting atop flower petals? A thin coating of wax is what protects delicate blooms from the harsh environmental elements – sun, rain, wind and heat. Ecco Bella harnesses this natural ingredient and pairs it with vitamin E, aloe vera, and green tea extract to produce makeup with environmental protection properties and soothing antioxidant components.
If you’re looking to try this veteran green brand, we suggest starting with a few of our favorites; We love the Flowercolor Face Powder for a light dust to set foundation, or as part of a sheer daytime minimal look. Top it off with Ecco Bella’s blush in Peach Rose, Flowercolor Bronzing Powder and a swipe of Good For You Gloss in Peace for the natural beauty look.
